Yesterday the Office of International Programs, Seton Hall University hosted an industry field trip to Port Newark Container Terminal, a bustling hub of maritime commerce on the East Coast. It was a huge opportunity for all of us to gain real-world insights into the dynamics of international trade and logistics. We are very grateful to James (Jim) Pelliccio, President and CEO at Port Newark Container Terminal for his warm hospitality during our visit. We learned about how the port operates, what a busy day looks like, the importance of safety measures, and a lot about the future projects of the terminal. A great leader makes you feel important and presents you with their authentic self, and that is what Jim does, he was fully engaged with us, minutely explaining every nuanced detail of PNCT right from its beginning. Some of the lessons learned practically:-Foundation on Identity: Every successful strategy starts with a clear understanding of what you do best. This is your core strength, the element that sets you apart. Play to this strength – it's the foundation on which you build.-Embrace Innovation: The world is constantly evolving. Don't be afraid to introduce new ideas and approaches that complement your core strength. Innovation keeps you relevant and adaptable.-Prioritize Sustainability: Consider the long-term impact of your strategy. Sustainable practices ensure your success continues well into the future. This trip was a fantastic learning experience for me.Mary Kate Naatus Mark Schild Ousmane Dansoko Seton Hall University #SetonHall #PNCT #InternationalTrade #Logistics #Leadership #Innovation #Sustainability

As a proud member of Morgan Stanley Alumni Network today I got to watch James Gorman Executive Chairman, Ex-CEO: Seizing the Moment. Watched it straight 3 times (link below). What a master class! I can see my whole MBA there. Leadership: -Have a clear vision(Hardest part). The more you are clear about your vision, more likely you will be able to live it. -The more complicated the situation, the more simple the pathways for solutions have to be. -Nimble divisiveness and ability to get things done. ( Producing results, after all Leadership is all about producing results). Strategy: -Always see the big picture. -Write top 10 priority items execution that you envision happening every year, and Act on it. -Always look for outcomes in long run. -Start with fixing problems(Initiatives), then focus on Driving strategic growth(Execution and Innovation), and finally work on building the talent( Sustainability).Negotiations:-Don’t delegate it. Do it yourself. -Be honest and transparent with your counterpart. Complete transparency! Full reveal! -Make sure results of the negotiations has a positive impact on the concerns members who are directly/indirectly connected with it. -Write matching and un-matching wants and needs. Focus on unmatched ones, and try to find a strategic fit. Life.. and what not! -Always believe in doing the right things(One of the MS core values) Walk the walk! -Start taking action right now. Don’t wait for the right time.-Don’t look for perfection. It sometimes kills productivity. -Greet problems similarly the way you greet things that are good. -Run a marathon(Long term goals) and not a sprint(short term goals).https://lnkd.in/eKqtRgqj#Leadership #StartegyExection #MorganStanleyAlumni

Last weekend, I was at Harvard Business School and I attended a session fireside chat with Head Coach Tommy (Tommy Amaker, Head Coach, Harvard). He was our coach at Seton Hall University Men's Basket Ball team from 1997 to 2001. He said “Good team have good players, great team has great teammates”, when I asked a question "How can I maximize my one-day visit at Harvard?" This highlights the difference between a team that functions well and a team that thrives. This goes beyond individual talent. It emphasizes the importance of teamwork and collaboration. “Criticising your employees when they screw up isn’t just your job, it’s your moral obligation.” -Kim Scott As a part of the event #Connext 24, yesterday I got opportunity to visit Prestigious Harvard Business School. I got to be in the electrifying classroom full of brilliant curious learners almost entirely from world, for a case study Candour at Clever led by Ethan Bernstein, Professor of Leadership and Organisation Behaviour. This case is based on the training new managers based on the 2×2 framework set by renowned author Kim Scott MBA ‘96 HBS in her book Radical Candor (Must Read). The case delves deeper into soliciting/giving feedback on the coordinates of Care Personally/Challenge Directly. I participated and learned a lot about how effectively we can have feedback system implemented for a high performing team. However, towards the end of this insightful discussion, Professor Bernstein guided us about an even more powerful approach: #CompassionateCandor. This emphasizes empathy and understanding alongside direct communication.By framing feedback as a chance for growth, we can bring a culture of continuous learning and high engagement.#HarvardBusinessSchool #HBSOnlineConnext #RadicalCandor #CompassionateLeadership #Feedback

I had the pleasure of attending the final session of the Digital Transformation Series today at Seton Hall University. Senior Director Lindsay Scarangello of Slalom provided a highly informative talk on cloud infrastructure and its intricacies. I gained valuable insights into cloud applications and their transformative impact on the IT industry. The event also offered the unexpected opportunity to connect with Seton Hall University’s Interim President, Dr. Katia Passerini. This interaction was both empowering and inspiring. Thanks a lot to Joyce Strawser, Mark Schild, Mary Kate Naatus, and Blue Owl Capital for putting this amazing Digital Transformation Series. #KeepLearning #GoPirates #SetonHallUniversity

Today at lunch, I had an incredible encounter! I got the chance to meet Seton Hall's very own Pirate Jaden Bediako(OMG 6’10”, I was looking at his face as if I am looking at the ceiling) fresh off their epic NIT Championship 2024 win!It was a truly a proud moment. Jaden is not just a champion athlete, he is incredibly humble and even took some selfies with me. It got me thinking a lot about the importance of empathy, humility, and leadership, especially when you reach the top.Jaden truly embodied these qualities, and it made the experience even more memorable. Here's to you, Jaden, and the entire Seton Hall team for an amazing season! #GoPirates #NITChamps #TheHall
