The “Peppercorns” – that is eleven-year-old Benny, his friend and fellow pupil Mia and more or less her younger sister Alice too. The junior detectives have already solved a lot of tricky cases in Hamburg. Now they have to investigate during their class trip in South Tyrol. In a small mountain village, the children are welcomed by Mia's friend Luca on Gruber farm. But Luca is completely distraught and asks them to go back, “before they are hit too.” Supposedly, an old curse, the curse of the black king, still haunts the farmyard. In fact, mysterious things are happening there: black water is suddenly flowing out of the healing spring, a barn is on fire, their new classmate Johannes disappears, and the cook behaves in a very strange fashion. Does the Black King, whose huge treasure is said to be hidden in the Minster col, really have a hand in it? Luca has believed in his existence since he entered this old tunnel. Or is it more likely the attacks on the farm arise “from our world”, as the Peppercorns suggest?
