Overwatch Contenders, abbreviated as OWC, or simply Contenders, and colloquially called "tier 2", was a series of global professional Overwatch tournaments organized by Blizzard Entertainment. Contenders acted as the second step of the Overwatch Path to Pro, between Open Division and the Overwatch League, for the latter of which Contenders served as the de facto development league. Beginning in 2017, it was the highest level of competition in North America and Europe prior to the formation of the Overwatch League. In 2018, the series expanded globally and introduced a promotion-relegation system. Following the official disbandment of the Overwatch League in January 2024, Contenders was discontinued, as the Overwatch Champions Series combined the entire Path to Pro ecosystem into a single open circuit.
