2013 Stars of the West Sport Pony Finals



The Stars of the West Sport Pony Challenge Cup Finals took place on August 24th at the wonderful Rocky Mountain Show Jumping facility just behind Spruce Meadows in Calgary, Alberta. The weather was perfect and lots of beautiful ponies strutted their stuff for over $1,200 in cash and prizes. The judge for the Finals was Equine Canada R hunter/jumper judge Anne Reid of Calgary, Alberta.


Ponies were judged 50% on conformation and 50% on movement, as well as their pony suitability for dressage, eventing, show jumping and/or hunters.


The Wenaling/Yearling Sport Pony division was won by Welsh/Thoroughbred yearling filly Avallach's Royally Dressed (*Telynau Royal Charter x Woodlands Best Dressed), bred by Caer Avallach Farm and owned by Daventry Equestrian in Darwell, Alberta. Reserve Champion went to the three-month-old Welsh/Thoroughbred filly Daventry's Nightlife (Alvesta Picasso x Sporting Life), owned and bred by Daventry Equestrian.


The two-year-old Sport Pony division was won by Section C Cob gelding DT SNapshot (Goldhills Brandysnap x Young's Arrest That Flirt), bred and owned by DreamTime Welsh of Sherwood Park, Alberta. Reserev Champion was awarded to the New Forest Pony filly Pferdetraum Black Beauty, who is bred and owned by Pferde Traum New Forest Ponies in Breton, Alberta.


The Champion of the 3 & Over Mares/Geldings Sport Pony division went to the Section B Welsh Pony mare Goldhills As You Like It (Gayfields Call The Cops x Goldhills As You Wish), owned by Daventry Equestrian. Reserve Champion went to the Welsh/Thoroughbred mare Sporting Life (Penrhyn Sporting Chance x Light Of My Life xx), also owned by Daventry Equestrian. Third place went to Section C Cob gelding DT Mr. Snaps (Goldhills Brandysnap x Young's Arrest That Flirt), bred and owned by DreamTime Welsh, and fourth place went to Section D Welsh Cob mare Idylwind Seren (*Trevallion Royal Consort x *Lidgett Black Bess), bred and owned by Pam Johnson of Kansas, USA and leased by Daventry Equestrian.


The 3 & over Sport Pony stallion Champion was Section B Welsh Pony stallion Daventry's Power Play (Alvesta Picasso x Pajon's Royal Flirt), bred and owned by Daventry Equestrian. Reserve Champion went to Fox Hollow Holly's Legacy, a lovely New Forest Pony stallion owned by Pferde Traum New Forest Ponies.


In the Championship class, the overall Grand Championship went to the three-year-old Section B Welsh stallion Daventry's Power Play and overall Reserve Grand Champion was awarded to the Section B Welsh mare Goldhills As You Like It. This was the second year in a row that an Alvesta Picasso foal has won the Finals.


Each of the division Champions received $100 in cash and a lovely monogrammed leather halter, and the Grand Champion receiving an additional $300 in cash, prizes, and trophies, and the Reserve Grand Champion received an additional $200 in cash, prizes, and trophies.
